The Warren County Conservation Easement and Purchase of Development Rights programs are projects to assist County landowners in protecting and preserving farm and forest land, open space, scenic vistas, historic sites, water resources, environmentally sensitive lands, and the rural character of the community for the future. A conservation easement is a voluntary land-protection tool granted by the owner, and there are currently twenty-two (22) properties and 2,000 acres under conservation easement in Warren County. Recently, in appreciation of the contributions of landowners to the conservation easement program, the County created signage to be installed on these properties.
Eligibility Criteria to Apply for Conservation Easement:
The use of the parcel subject to the conservation easement must be consistent with the Warren County Comprehensive Plan, and the proposed terms of the conservation easement must be consistent with the minimum conservation easement terms and conditions set forth in Warren County Code Section 81-8.
The identified parcel shall obtain at least 15 points under the ranking criteria set forth under Warren County Code Section 81-7 unless the Warren County Board of Supervisors finds that it is in the best interest of the County to waive this requirement.

There are a variety of benefits from applying to have a property considered for a conservation easement including potential tax breaks, property preservation, promoting tourism, and the protection of watersheds, viewsheds, and environmentally sensitive lands.
